The Smash Gyms Brazilian Jiu-jitsu program includes a systematic blend of Jiu-jitsu, Wrestling, and Judo into a complete grappling system that will safely progress beginners at an accelerated pace. Our system is designed as a path for the average person to progress safely and quickly into an expert grappler. The system has proven to be highly effective in both self-defense and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu sport competition. You will find our unique Jiu-jitsu classes are presented in a format highly conducive to learning while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

Smash Gym's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is taught by Michael Jen. A Third Degree Blackbelt under Joe Moreira, Michael Jen brings 20 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. One of the first 50 American Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Black Belts, Michael has also earned his brown belt in Judo and Japanese Jujitsu. 

Michael's reputation is that of a top notch instructor. Smash Gym's BJJ curriculum was designed by Michael based on systems identified and developed through his 20 years of training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. While Michael was progressing through the ranks he was fortunate enough to have the unique opportunity to train with over 11 different black belt instructors. This invaluable experience helped him to see many perspectives from every scenario and choose which techniques worked best for him. Through teaching hundreds of students over the years he formulated a system of teaching designed to help students progress quickly and safely. Through the curriculum you will be taught the techniques outlined and identified that are required to progress quickly all the way to the top levels of jiu-jitsu. The core of the techniques being taught can be applied both in gi and no-gi grappling. Our beginner friendly Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes are also designed to be fun, safe, and great exercise!

Are you looking for a fun workout that will increase your strength and flexibility while burning fat? Then our cardio-kickboxing is for you! It is an exiting cardiovascular workout that blends elements of boxing, martial arts and traditional aerobics into a 60-minute exercise routine. Punch away your stress! Safely hit and kick pads, mitts and shields with a partner and under the supervision of a professional trainer!

Smash Gyms Cardio kickboxing is a combination of aerobics, boxing, and martial arts. Learn proper technique for punches, kicks, knees and elbows while burning a ton of calories!

This intense, total-body workout can improve strength, aerobic fitness, flexibility, coordination, and balance. The American Council on Exercise (ACE), which evaluates exercise products and programs, notes that, during a one-hour kickboxing workout, you can burn from 500 to 800 calories, which is up to twice the calories you burn during a one-hour step-aerobics class.

Kickboxing classes can be a great alternative for people who have become bored with weight-room cardiovascular activities, such as brisk walking or jogging on a treadmill. "This review is for the Kids Martial Arts and Smash and Bash Bootcamp held at Smash Gyms. I was referred to Smash Gyms by a family member who trains in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class at Smash Gyms. The atmosphere in the gym is very welcoming to all. My son, who is 9 years old, took a liking to the Kids Martial Arts class on the very first day. His confidence, discipline, and knowledge of self defense has rapidly developed since enrolling in this school. He insists that he wants to continue to train daily. The instructors leading the Kids Martial Arts program do an excellent job working with the children. Parents can work out during the kids' class as well. I have taken the Smash and Bash Bootcamp while my son is training. This also is an awesome, challenging, and very convenient class for any parent wanting a great workout while their child is training. What attracted me to Smash Gyms is the breadth and depth of the Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu programs and the stellar reputations of the head instructors, IDF veteran and KM expert Opher Har-El and 3rd degree black belt Michael Jen. Having trained with Opher for nearly 6 years, I can tell you that the Krav Maga program at Smash Gyms faithfully continues the original lineage - based on fundamental and natural instincts, anyone can learn how to defend themselves and at the same time get in phenomenal shape.Opher's instruction is a real as it gets - his classes are intense, challenging, and a ton of fun for newbies through advanced students. The KM classes have a good mix of advanced students, new students and folks just dropping in; and everyone gets the same level of attention. There's no ego or meatheads, so the intimidation factor is very low - just a group of folks looking to improve themselves. You find yourself being pushed in ways that you never knew you could handle. Amazing that at the end of every class, it's impossible to wipe the grin off of your face.As far as Michael Jen's BJJ classes, I've had the chance to join a few weeks of classes, and his reputation and the reviews from the BJJ students hold true - his attention to detail, straight forward technique and his highly evolved "systems" make every class feel like a seminar. As important as the instructor cadre is the student body, and it's obvious that Smash Gyms attracts a high level of expertise from a wide variety of disciplines - there are regular black belt drops in from BJJ and Judo, world class wrestlers and grapplers, available to help you with your game - all for the asking (it's pretty common for folks to stick around and roll for an hour after class) and to take advantage of. Recently a team of 8 of Michael's students placed really, really well (4 golds, 3 silvers) in competition at Jiujistu-by-the-Sea, so that's the ultimate proof in the pudding!The gym is relatively new, and a really nice space - extremely clean; more and more equipment and class variety is added every week; there's even a nicely thought out kids play room off to the side, but it's more likely they will want to join the kids classes ;-)So if you are looking to continue your training at a higher level, start learning to defend yourself, or looking just to jump in for fun and fitness, you'd do really well to come down and take advantage of the fact that we are lucky enough to have such world class instruction and talent in our backyard; ask for Rudy and he'll take great care of you with no pressure, and an unlimited and no obligation free week!" - Jeff B

"This place rocks! The atmosphere is very friendly and casual, not intimidating at all. People (staff and clients) are friendly and helpful. Walk in the door and Rudy will help you out on what you need to get you started.I tried out the circuit training at noon, kickboxing, and zumba. Circuit training is great workout, small class and personal attention. Zumba is only as good as the instructor, and Raquel is energetic and fun. Kickboxing is pads and mitts, not the kick in the air stuff, good workout, and the instructors walk around to make sure people's forms are correct. Though your workout quality do depend on a decent partner.The only complain I have of this place is no shower, other than that, it's perfect. Krav maga is next on my list ." - Viola C.
